Cause

50 years ago, a small group of passionate students and fellow actors, led by their instructor, Tom Kerr, decided to create a professional theatre company in Kamloops. Their ingenuity laid the foundation for WCT to become a source of entertainment, conversation, education and joy for generations of Kamloopsians.

When we talk about “Breaking Ground” as the theme of the 50th Anniversary season we think both in terms of making way for buildings like the Sagebrush Theatre and the upcoming Kamloops Centre for the Arts, but also in the metaphorical planting of seeds and establishing roots for future generations to thrive. What are the barriers - physical, personal, or societal - that we break through to see an idea grow, and who are the people who have the bravery and imagination to break the mold?

By taking part in Western Canada Theatre’s 50/50, you’re not just buying a ticket—you’re investing in growing the next 50 years of live, local theatre magic. For decades, WCT has been the cornerstone of arts and culture in our community, sparking creativity, connection, and excitement through professional productions and theatre education. With your support, we can keep the curtain rising for generations to come—and you could walk away with half the jackpot!
